“Everyday actions matter. When we recognize them, share them, and inspire one another to keep going, we begin to see just how much positive change is already happening around us. Peace Begins With Us.”
International Day of Peace
The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations in 1981 to strengthen the ideals of Peace among nations and people around the world. Each year on September 21st, communities everywhere are invited to reflect on what Peace means and how we can help create it through everyday action. This year’s theme, “Invest in Peace: For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day,” reminds us that Peace is more than the absence of conflict. It is something we build through connection, compassion, opportunity, sustainability, service, and kindness.
The day also connects closely to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which recognize that Peace is deeply connected to issues like education, equality, climate action, healthy communities, environmental stewardship, and social connection. Together, these goals offer a roadmap toward a healthier, safer, and more sustainable future for everyone.
The Global Love Project believes that Peace Begins With Us, and it’s already happening all around us. It happens when someone volunteers, teaches, creates art, cares for the environment, supports a local business, builds community, or simply chooses kindness and connection. This International Day of Peace, we’re inviting St. Petersburg to make that work visible by recognizing and celebrating the people, organizations, businesses, and everyday actions already creating positive change.
Throughout the week surrounding September 21st, The Global Love Project partners across the city will host events and activities inspired by the spirit of Peace. There are many ways to participate, so explore the opportunities below, find an event or activity that speaks to you, and help us celebrate the Peace that is already being created in our community. If you’re planning a celebration or you’re already working to make your community healthier, kinder, more sustainable, more creative, or more connected, we want to hear about it and amplify your story.
Let’s celebrate what’s possible when we come together!
